Meet Your Advisor and Read About Her Journey of Breaking Barriers

Hi, I’m Mariaam! I’m a PhD student researching labour market access. Before this, I spent over a decade supporting migrants in low-paid work, providing advice on the challenges they face while also working as a campaigner and community organiser. I serve on regional policy advisory committees focused on migration and anti-labour exploitation. Having been a migrant myself for 14 years, I’ve personally navigated visa issues, barriers to education, and employment challenges - experiences that have given me invaluable knowledge to help others on their journeys. My own path to higher education was delayed for 18 years after secondary school - not due to a lack of ambition, but because of the socio-economic circumstances I was born into. Education was my biggest dream, and the obstacles I faced have fuelled my passion (and sometimes frustration) for breaking down the barriers that prevent people like me from reaching their full potential. At ElevatEd, my mission is to empower individuals -especially those facing structural barriers - to access higher education and meaningful employment. I provide the advice, tools, and resources you need not just to get where you should be, but to thrive once you’re there. Since 2019, I have successfully supported 13 young people in Southern Africa and Ireland on their career and education journeys, voluntarily dedicating my time to their success. Through this, I have gained a deep understanding of the costs, time, and strategies that truly work. Book a session with confidence - I’ll be with you every step of the way.

Nelly, Musina.

“With your guidance, I have accessed my dream course that I never thought was possible after two years of having no job or replies from two college applications I submitted. I won't let you or myself down."

Rue, Johannesburg

"Thank you for believing in me when I had given up on my dream to be a Chef. Your assistance in finding a World Chefs course for young people like me with limited resources kick-started my career outside very expensive culinary colleges."

Lisa, Dublin.

“You have great patience and are a good teacher. As a new migrant and with your support I feel I now understand my role better and feel confident to do my new care assistant role.”
